February 23, 2022
Tomorrow the Moon will be in a Third Quarter phase. Sometimes called a Last Quarter Moon, this phase occurs roughly 3 weeks after the New Moon when the Moon is three quarter of the way through it’s orbit around the earth. If you live in the northern hemisphere the Moons left side will be illuminated and the right side will be dark. For those of you in the southern hemisphere it will be the opposite with the right side illuminated. On the day of the Third Quarter phase the Moon will rise around midnight on the eastern horizon and set in the west around noon the next day. In the days following the Third Quarter Phase the Moon’s illumination will decrees each day until the New Moon.

Tomorrow's Last Quarter Phase
The Last Quarter on February 23 has an illumination of 55%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On February 23 the Moon is 21.68 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.

Moon before apogee (3 Days)
12 days after point of apogee on 11 February 2022 at 02:39 in ♊ Gemini. The lunar orbit is getting narrow, while the Moon is moving towards the Earth. It will keep this direction over the next 3 days, until the Moon reaches the point of next perigee on 26 February 2022 at 22:18 in ♑ Capricorn.

Moon before southern standstill (3 Days)
10 days since the previous standstill on 12 February 2022 at 16:45 in ♋ Cancer when the Moon has reached North declination of ∠26.444°, the lunar orbit is extending southward over the next 2 days to face maximum declination of ∠-26.559° at the point of next southern standstill on 26 February 2022 at 06:37 in ♑ Capricorn.

Neap tide
There is low ocean tide today. Sun and Moon gravitational forces are not aligned, but meet at big angle, so their combined tidal force is weak.

Moon Phase Today: July 24, 2021
The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Full Moon phase. During a Full Moon the moon is 100% illuminated as seen from Earth and is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. The Moon will be visible throughout the night sky rising at sunset in the east and setting with the sunrise the next morning. The point at which a Full Moon occurs can be measured down to a fraction of a second. The time it takes between full moons is known as a Synodic month and is 29.530587981 days long.

It is Buck Moon
The Full Moon this days is the Buck of July 2021.

Sun-Earth-Moon syzygy
The Moon is in Full Moon geocentric opposition with the Sun today and this alignment forms Sun-Earth-Moon syzygy.

Spring tide
There is high Full Moon ocean tide today. Combined Sun and Moon gravitational tidal force working on Earth is strong, because of the Sun-Earth-Moon syzygy alignment.

Distance to Moon 374 984 km
Moon is 374 984 km (233 004 mi) away from Earth on this date. Moon moves farther next 8 days until apogee, when Earth-Moon distance will reach 404 412 km (251 290 mi).
Moon after perigee
3 days after point of perigee on 21 July 2021 at 10:30 in ♐ Sagittarius. The lunar orbit is getting wider, while the Moon is moving outward the Earth. It will keep this direction for the next 8 days, until it get to the point of next apogee on 2 August 2021 at 07:35 in ♉ Taurus.

Moon after southern standstill
1 day after previous South standstill on 22 July 2021 at 15:11 in ♑ Capricorn, when Moon has reached southern declination of ∠-25.643°. Next 12 days the lunar orbit moves northward to face North declination of ∠25.685° in the next northern standstill on 5 August 2021 at 16:46 in ♋ Cancer.

Moon Phase Today: July 17, 2021

The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a First Quarter phase. This phase occurs roughly 7 days after the New Moon when the moon is one quarter of the way through its orbit around the earth. Exactly half the moon will be illuminated and half dark. On the day of the First Quarter phase the moon is high overhead at sunset and is visible until mid-night when it sets in the west. The First Quarter phase is a one-day event and in the following days enters a Waxing Gibbous phase becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon.

Buck Moon after 6 days
Next Full Moon is the Buck Moon of July 2021 after 6 days on 24 July 2021 at 02:37.

Syzygy in 6 days
After 6 days on 24 July 2021 at 02:37 in ♒ Aquarius, the Moon will be in Full Moon geocentric opposition with the Sun and this alignment forms next Sun-Earth-Moon syzygy.

Neap tide
There is low ocean tide today. Sun and Moon gravitational forces are not aligned, but meet at big angle, so their combined tidal force is weak.

Distance to Moon 366 475 km
Moon is 366 475 km (227 717 mi) away from Earth on this date. Moon moves closer next 3 days until perigee, when Earth-Moon distance will reach 364 520 km (226 502 mi).

Moon before perigee
11 days after point of apogee on 5 July 2021 at 14:48 in ♉ Taurus. The lunar orbit is getting closer, while the Moon is moving inward the Earth. It will keep this direction for the next 3 days, until it get to the point of next perigee on 21 July 2021 at 10:30 in ♐ Sagittarius.

Moon before southern standstill
8 days after previous North standstill on 9 July 2021 at 10:05 in ♋ Cancer, when Moon has reached northern declination of ∠25.622°. Next 5 days the lunar orbit moves southward to face South declination of ∠-25.643° in the next southern standstill on 22 July 2021 at 15:11 in ♑ Capricorn.

Moon Phase Today: July 03, 2021
The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this part of the Moon cycle, the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. This phase is best viewed an hour or 2 before the sunrise and can be quite beautiful if you're willing to get up early. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon's surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.

Moon Phase Today: June 19, 2021

The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word "gibbosus" meaning humpbacked.
