Moon Phase Today: June 05, 2021
The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this part of the Moon cycle, the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. This phase is best viewed an hour or 2 before the sunrise and can be quite beautiful if you're willing to get up early. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon's surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.
Strawberry Moon after 19 days
Next Full Moon is the Strawberry Moon of June 2021 after 19 days on 24 June 2021 at 18:40.
Syzygy in 4 days
After 4 days on 10 June 2021 at 10:53 in ♊ Gemini, the Moon will be in New Moon geocentric conjunction with the Sun and this alignment forms next Sun-Moon-Earth syzygy.
Neap tide
There is low ocean tide today. Sun and Moon gravitational forces are not aligned, but meet at big angle, so their combined tidal force is weak.
Distance to Moon 401 606 km
Moon is 401 606 km (249 546 mi) away from Earth on this date. Moon moves farther next 2 days until apogee, when Earth-Moon distance will reach 406 230 km (252 420 mi).
Moon before northern standstill
7 days after previous South standstill on 28 May 2021 at 19:21 in ♑ Capricorn, when Moon has reached southern declination of ∠-25.647°. Next 6 days the lunar orbit moves northward to face North declination of ∠25.640° in the next northern standstill on 12 June 2021 at 04:11 in ♋ Cancer.
Solar Report - 06/05/2021

Solar Activity
.24 hr Summary... Solar activity was very low with both regions 2827 (N12W49, Hsx/alpha) and 2829 (S18E17, Cao/beta) producing B-flares. Slight decay was observed in the trailing spots of Region 2827. Region 2829 grew initially with the addition of several new trailing spots, but appeared to be in decay towards the second half of the period. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed. .Forecast... Solar activity is expected to be very low, with a chance for C-class flares, on 05-07 Jun. Energetic Particle
.24 hr Summary... The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was normal to moderate and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux was steady at background levels.
.Forecast... The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be normal to moderate over 05-07 Jun and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to persist at background levels throughout the forecast period. Solar Wind
.24 hr Summary... Solar wind parameters were at nominal levels with solar wind speed ranging from 307-439 km/s. Total field ranged from 1-6 nT while the Bz component was between +/-4 nT. Phi angle was predominantly in a positive sector.
.Forecast... Solar wind parameters are expected to be near nominal levels on 05-07 Jun.
Geospace
.24 hr Summary... The geomagnetic field was quiet.
.Forecast... The geomagnetic field is expected to be mostly quiet on 05-07 Jun.
