The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Crescent Phase. A Waxing Crescent is the first Phase after the New Moon and is a great time to see the features of the moon's surface. During this phase the Moon can be seen in the wester sky after the sun dips below the horizon at sunset. The moon is close to the sun in the sky and mostly dark except for the right edge of the moon which becomes brighter as the days get closer to the next phase which is a First Quarter with a 50% illumination.
Buck Moon after 12 days
Next Full Moon is the Buck Moon of July 2021 after 12 days on 24 July 2021 at 02:37.
Syzygy in 12 days
After 12 days on 24 July 2021 at 02:37 in ♒ Aquarius, the Moon will be in Full Moon geocentric opposition with the Sun and this alignment forms next Sun-Earth-Moon syzygy.
Moderate tide
There is medium ocean tide today. Sun and Moon gravitational forces are not aligned, but meet at very acute angle, so their combined tidal force is moderate.
Distance to Moon 391 783 km
Moon is 391 783 km (243 443 mi) away from Earth on this date. Moon moves closer next 9 days until perigee, when Earth-Moon distance will reach 364 520 km (226 502 mi).
Moon after apogee
5 days after point of apogee on 5 July 2021 at 14:48 in ♉ Taurus. The lunar orbit is getting closer, while the Moon is moving inward the Earth. It will keep this direction for the next 9 days, until it get to the point of next perigee on 21 July 2021 at 10:30 in ♐ Sagittarius.
Moon after northern standstill
2 days after previous North standstill on 9 July 2021 at 10:05 in ♋ Cancer, when Moon has reached northern declination of ∠25.622°. Next 11 days the lunar orbit moves southward to face South declination of ∠-25.643° in the next southern standstill on 22 July 2021 at 15:11 in ♑ Capricorn.

NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center :Product: Forecast Discussion :Issued: 2021 Jul 11 0030 UTC
Solar Activity
.24 hr Summary...Solar activity was very low. New Region 2842 (N24E79, Hsx/alpha) rotated around the NE limb and was numbered. A DSF, centered near N46E54 and approximately 20 degree in length, was observed around 10/0000 UTC. SDO/AIA 304 imagery suggests the material was reabsorbed into the Sun. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery.
.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected to be very low on 11-13 Jul.
Energetic Particle
.24 hr Summary...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux reached moderate levels and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels.
.Forecast...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to continue at normal to moderate levels on 11-12 Jul. Moderate to high levels are likely on 13 Jul due to CH HSS influence.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to remain at background levels.
Solar Wind
.24 hr Summary...
Solar wind parameters were slightly enhanced. Solar wind speed increased from approximately 320 km/s to near 440 km/s. Total field reached 11 nT early in the period while the Bz component was between +8/-9 nT. Phi angle was predominantly positive.
.Forecast...
By mid to late on 11 Jul, parameters are expected to become enhanced due to the arrival of a negative polarity CH HSS. HSS conditions are expected to continue through 13 Jul.
Geospace
.24 hr Summary...
The geomagnetic field was quiet with an isolate period of unsettled conditions.
.Forecast...
Mostly quiet conditions are expected through mid to late on 11 Jul. Unsettled levels are expected late on 11 Jul followed by unsettled to active levels on 12-13 Jul due to CH HSS effects.
